The Position

The role of the Marketing Capabilities Manager is pivotal in empowering our commercial team to excel in the marketplace. This individual is the driving force behind identifying skill gaps, setting priorities, and meticulously developing a roadmap for advancement. They ensure our marketers are not only up-to-date but are also trendsetters in a dynamic, competitive environment. By drawing on best practices from leading marketing organizations, this manager pinpoints innovation opportunities for our team. They are responsible for establishing strategic directions, designing training blueprints, and equipping our marketers with the expertise to redefine industry standards.

Relationships

Reports to the Marketing Futures and Excellence Lead. Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including employee experience, marketing, analytics, and technology, to assess, develop, and implement marketing capabilities and training. Communicates innovative strategies to therapeutic area marketing teams.

Essential Functions

  • Capability Need Identification: Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify current and future capability needs of the marketing team. Utilize data-driven insights, industry trends, performance metrics, and stakeholder feedback to determine skill gaps and areas for development. Analyze market trends and industry best practices to align learning programs with current and future skills requirements to drive business success

  • Business Objectives Alignment: Collaborate with marketing leadership to align capability development programs with overall business objectives. Provide insights and recommendations to leadership regarding talent development strategies. Work closely with HR and other relevant departments to integrate initiatives into broader organizational development strategies and ensure alignment

  • Prioritization and Roadmap Development: Develop and maintain a prioritized roadmap for capability development that aligns with organizational goals and strategies. Ensure the roadmap reflects both immediate needs and long-term strategic priorities

  • Experience Design: Provide insight in the capability roadmap into various channels, including in-person workshops, virtual training sessions, and e-learning platforms that would best support the development of each capability

  • Learning Implementation: Clearly communicate identified capability needs and priorities to the learning content development team. Provide detailed briefs and necessary context to ensure the creation of effective learning content

  • Monitoring and Reporting: Track progress against the capability development roadmap and adjust plans as needed. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of learning programs. Develop and present regular reports on capability development initiatives, outcomes, and impact to senior leadership

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in capability development and employee learning. Implement continuous improvement processes to refine capability identification and prioritization methodologies

  • Capability Building: Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the marketing team. Implement initiatives that promote skill-building, knowledge transfer, and career development

    Physical Requirements

    Approximately 20-30% overnight travel.

    Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field preferred

  • 8+ years of experience, including demonstrated history in learning and development, with a focus on marketing capabilities development preferred

  • Proven track record of identifying and prioritizing capability needs within a marketing or business environment

  • Ability to develop and execute a strategic roadmap that aligns with organizational goals

  • Strong knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and marketing functions

  • Familiarity with learning and development practices and technologies

  • Proven experience in designing effective learning programs

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage stakeholders

  • Strategic Planning, Execution and follow-through skills required

  • Strong leadership and management skills to drive a culture of continuous learning

  • Ability to analyze data and feedback to measure the impact of learning initiatives and inform future strategies

  • Embodies leadership behaviors, including authenticity, servant leadership, will, empathy, decisiveness, and driving focus and simplicity
